Sperm Freezing and Storage
Embryo and sperm cryopreservation (freezing)
Embryo Freezing is a process to freeze and store embryos from the process of In Vitro
Fertilization. If multiple embryos are generated patients may choose to freeze leftover
embryos that are not transferred. Those embryos are placed in liquid nitrogen and can
be preserved for a long time. The advantage is that patients who fail to conceive in
fresh IVF cycle may become pregnant using such embryos without having to go through
a full IVF cycle. Or, if pregnancy occurs, they can return later for another pregnancy.

“Embryos that remain from the implantation can be stored as long as couples
want as well a for the next implantation.”

Sperm Storage – Sperm Storage; is the process that stores sperms and then
retrieves them for the following usage:

- Males with diseases that need
chemotherapy or radiation which may
cause the male to be sterile.

- Males who would like to have a
vasectomy but need to store sperms for
having a child in the future in case of
unexpected changes in a patient’s life
such as a new marriage or death of a
child or spouse can give rise to the
desire to have more children.

- Males who work in high risk industry
and can cause sterility.

- In case of a small amount of sperms, sperms stored many times may increase the rate
of pregnancy in artificial insemination.

- Couples that cannot spend a lot of time together then have problems conceiving.
Sperm storage that is used in the ovulation period; the female is able to become
pregnant, or couples going through cycles of artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization
(IVF), it can be frustrating when responsibilities or obligations require a spouse to be
absent If it is anticipated that the male partner will be unavailable during the optimal
time for the procedure, it is possible to cryopreserve a semen sample prior to his
departure as a backup in the event he is prevented from providing a sample at the time
of the procedure.
